Common problems / Troubleshooting

The Pocket PC is available from multiple manufacturers, with many different versions of the operating system, various ROM revisions, and so forth.  We will attempt to cover the most common problems and solutions here:

First, make sure that you have the latest version installed.  You can always get the latest version for free, here.

Make sure your time and (more important) DATE are correct.  An incorrect DATE will invalidate the security certificate in your Pocket PC, and make you unable to communicate with the transaction servers.  Set it with START > SETTINGS > CLOCK.

Check and insure your online password is in UPPERCASE.  A MiXeD cAsE password WILL NOT WORK, even if you can log in over the Internet on a PC.  Mobile passwords must be UPPERCASE.  You can change or view your password settings at: https://www.oc2net.net/billing/Getpassword.asp

Make sure that the network icon (Wireless devices) or Connectivity Icon (Mobile 2003 devices)  shows a connection. You device may also have an indicator light that shows if a connection  (i.e., WiFi or Bluetooth) is available. If your device battery is low, the connection can be  closed. An internet connection is required in order to process transactions.

If you are using Wi-Fi:  Turn off the WEP encryption.  Your Pocket PC will use its 128-bit SSL encryption for all credit card processing, and the double encryption of SSL plus WEP seems to confuse the Pocket PCs we have tested.  In addition, make sure your wireless connection is active before you start Pocket Verifier.

PROCESSING REQUIRES SECURED SSL CONNECTIONS

With the exception of Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC devices, you may need to update your device to allow 128-bit encryption.

Error (-2146893051) - 128 Bit Encryption Package not Installed.
If you are using Pocket PC 2000, 2001, or 2002 unit and receive the above error, it means that your devices does not have 128-bit Encryption for performing secured credit card sales (This package is included on Pocket PC 2003 devices by default, thus, DO NOT install this package on Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC Devices).

Please download the encryption package from the link below and install on your device. When asked to replace system or hidden file select Yes To All. Soft-reset your device and then you will be ready to take secure credit card transactions.

128BIT_Encryption_PPC.exe (1.02 MB)

You should then test to see if you have a secured connection by…

     1.  Starting your connection
     2.  Opening Pocket Explorer (Start > Programs)
     3.  Go to: http://merchantanywhere.com/ssl/test.htm
     4.  Follow the instructions on the screen

Note:
If you receive a message asking you if you would like to view the page over a secured connection, then SSL is NOT setup correctly on your device.
