Merchant Newsletter - April 10, 2004

I can't remember that crazy URL to enter my transactions! We hear that a LOT. So, to help our merchants remember, we now have created the convenient:

www.EnterTransactions.com
which is certainly easier to remember!  It will take you to Transaction Central, and gives us a spot to alert you to critical hardware and software updates as well!

OSCommerce is the #1 FREE, Open Source shopping cart for UNIX!  Many thanks to Dave Ferrise of Ferrise Consulting for this module, which now supports CVV2 as well as AVS for better fraud detection. If your web site is hosted on UNIX, this free shopping cart (Under the GNU Public License), is a great way to avoid monthly shopping cart charges!  It integrates seamlessly to your MerchantAnywhere merchant account, placing the transactions directly into your Transaction Central reporting system!  If you need help getting your OSCommerce store operational, or even in getting your whole web site set up and published, you can contact Dave Ferrise at: www.ferriseconsulting.com/fd/
If you would like to see an example on an OSCommerce - driven store, take a peek at www.mytinydog.com, where they have all sorts of neat items geared toward tiny dogs and their owners. I rather personally like this one, but maybe that's because I have TWO tiny dogs...

KingCart is still our personal choice for merchants who do not want to host their own. More features than we have room to list here, but the most outstanding is the LIVE links to UPS and FedEx for shipping pricing, including your user defined markup! NO upfront costs, dirt-cheap pricing, and complete integration with Transaction Central.  Take a look at the MerchantAnywhere product store, it's the one WE use.

we want to hear from you!

FREE Stuff! Everybody loves free stuff, and you can get all sorts of Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover merchant materials just by asking!  Actually, you need to go to the proper places on their websites and tell them what you want! The links to these sites are at the bottom of this newsletter, and you can get decals, tip trays, calendars, signs, mouse pads and more!  You 'pay' for it simply by identifying yourself as a merchant with your merchant number.  This number is 12 or 16 characters for Visa / Mastercard, 15 for Discover, and 9 for American Express. Look on your statements for this number.

Yahoo! Google, Overture, Inktomi...  How do they work, how can I optimize my web site for maximum search engine exposure?  www.WebProWorld.com has a very informative site and newsletter, and they specialize in search engine optimization, strategies, and marketing. They regularly converse with the people who create the strategies for Yahoo! Google, and the other giants, and this information actually converts into methods and techniques that can make a difference in your web rankings, and point out how popular practices like repeating keywords over and over can actually hurt your rankings with the big big guys.  I don't want to give TOO many secrets away... the competition may be getting these newsletters!
Accept credit cards anywhere! FINAL NOTICE! Price increases on our incredibly popular, award winning, Palm VIIX systems will go into effect on April 15th.  After April 15th, our web site will be updated to the regular price of $399.00.  This is the system that received "Top Pick" by Handheld Computing magazine.

A lost connection is indicated by the cube or circle spinning for a long period (30 seconds or more) with no other activity. Pocket Verifier Professional allows you to stop an existing connection and to store the information in the Transaction Manager for processing at a later time. To do this, click on the Rotating Connection Indicator.

Most wireless units have a signal strength indicator.  On the Palm VIIx, the indicator is accessed by tapping on the "Diagnostics" icon on the main screen:

This will display a '5 bars' signal strength meter, which you can use to find a 'good' spot in an otherwise poor area.  This has made the difference at more than one trade show!
