It is important to note, however, that signatures can add an additional 1K or more of data transfer to your transactions. An additional 1K of data can extend the processing time by as much as 10 seconds in weak areas. On Palm VIIx's, which charge 9.95 per month for 50Kb of transfer, this can lower your "covered" transactions from 250 down to 50 or less. You may want to use Signature Plus! instead.

Free Stuff! Everybody loves free stuff, and you can get all sorts of Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover merchant materials just by asking!  Actually, you need to go to the proper places on their websites and tell them what you want! The links to these sites are at the bottom of this newsletter, and you can get decals, tip trays, calendars, signs, mouse pads and more!  You 'pay' for it simply by identifying yourself as a merchant with your merchant number.  This number is 12 or 16 characters for Visa / Mastercard, 15 for Discover, and 9 for American Express. Look on your statements for this number.

Use the Micro-UV light to check credit cards. All major credit cards have letters or an image printed on the front of the card in UV ink. Most fake credit cards DON’T HAVE any UV printing.

Remember, at swap meets and trade shows, you are 'targets' for people to try to pass bad credit cards, bad checks and funny money, as they know you will never see them again...

SPAM PROOF your web site! There are programs that search the web, and "harvest" e-mail addresses from your web site.  Here is an easy way to stop these programs COLD.  Its FREE and easy to do.  Here is how it works:  If you have an email address on your website, like this:

Then a "harvester" can find it, and add it to it's list of victims to spam.  How do you prevent this?  Simple.  Use the FREE email Email Obfuscator available at: http://king-cart.com/cgi-bin/obfuscator.cgi this will take your email address, and change it into this:

So What?  Well... If you take this result, and paste it into your HTML, it will APPEAR on your site as a normal email address like this:

BUT the email harvesters DO NOT SEE THIS AS AN EMAIL ADDRESS!  It will work exactly like the original address, but it has been converted into character codes that the harvesters cannot recognize.  This is a powerful, free technique that anyone can use, unless you actually enjoy getting emails for growth hormones, plastic inserts, or magic creams.
