Managing your Password.

Problems with new password procedures can be avoided.

The Overpayment Scam:  Generally used for overseas orders, this scam can also be used here domestically, it works like this:
Most versions of this scam involve someone sending you a check or money order for more than the price of something you are selling, and you get to keep the difference as a commission (or you need to send them back some amount for some reason).  The scammer sends you a money order for more than the amount of their purchase (for some bogus reason), and you are supposed to send them back all or most of the difference.

Although the money orders look real (and are usually accepted as legitimate by banks), they are actually fake. So you lose the difference you've sent them in cash (after you deposited their money order in your bank account and it supposedly cleared), as well as the item you shipped them.

A variant of this plan is where someone offers you an income stream using your personal or business account to accept payments for an offshore company. You are told that this company has problems accepting money from US customers and is looking for financial representatives to handle the payments. You are usually offered 5% to 15% to handle the transactions.

The result of this is that you may experience identity theft, they may attempt to steal money directly from your bank account, or you receive bogus payments that you then deposit into your bank account, and then send them 85% to 95% of the money, which, of course, you lose.

A new scam is surfacing, where you get a call claiming to be from the local court, and claiming that you missed your jury duty, and that there is a warrant out for your arrest!  The scammer tries to get personal information from you to "clear things up".  They are looking for Social and other personal information to steal your identity!

Note the exact time, and call your local Police Fraud division.  They may want to call your phone company, and have the call traced.  Also, you can make sure that you didn't miss any jury summons as well!

The new password procedures are causing some confusion,  but by following a few simple rules, you can easily navigate these new waters.

New security rules are causing merchants to periodically change their passwords.  There is an online interface to do this, here.  Please note that where it says "Check Account", they are looking for, as security, your CHECKING ACCOUNT NUMBER.  Many merchants have mistaken this as a confirmation field, and they re-enter their Merchant ID.

Most importantly, When you change your password, enter it in UPPERCASE as a MiXeD case password will not work with Mobile or PC swiped software products. You need to use at least one number and symbol, here are some examples:

These will work-
ABCD1234$
$BUCKAROO1
1GOODTIME4$

These will NOT work:
AbCD1234$ (a lowercase letter)
BUCKAROO1 (no Symbol)

If you are using any of these products: CardReader Plus, PC Verifier, or Pocket Verifier for Palm, Pocket PC, Nokia or Sony Ericsson, you will need to change the password in your device as well. nSwipe users need to notify merchant@merchantanywhere.com when the password changes.  To change your password on a mobile device, tap on the asterisks on the login screen:

Then just enter your new password in the dialog box that appears:

Tap OK, and you are done!

Changing your password in PC Verifier is just as simple, simply start PC Verifier, and enter your ID.  You get the Merchant Log-in screen:

Just enter your new password in both the "Password" and "Confirm Pwd" boxes and you are done!

If you are unable to set or change your password, call 1-888-835-1777 tell them you have a "Password Problem"

Treo 650 users that perform the ROM Upgrade
should also perform a "Bluetooth Reset" on their Pocket Spectrums.  A Bluetooth reset is easy to do.  Turn the Pocket Spectrum off, and then press and hold the power button until it prints it's test page.  Then re- "pair" the 650 and Spectrum, and you are done!

Pocket CrossCheck gets an upgrade, to handle driver's license numbers longer than the AAMVA Standard.  This change allows the user to key in drivers license numbers from any state, as well as swipe licenses with a magnetic stripe!  You can find this download in our free upgrades section.

Clarification:

Transaction Central sent an email to all users about a new feature in Web Services that allows multiple credits for a single transaction.  Many users thought "Web Services" meant Transaction Central, but unfortunately it does not.  That new feature is intended for developers writing their own interfaces to Transaction Central, that feature is NOT available through the online interface.
