Cash Receipts for your Mobile Devices!

Ever wonder how the magnetic stripe on the back of your card works?
It is very much like a cassette tape, just a bit wider.  A magnetic head can read the surface of the strip as you pull it through the slot:

Like the two tracks of a stereo recording, the credit card has 2 or 3 parallel "tracks" Using a special treatment, we can actually see the magnetic pattern on the credit card strip:
You are not seeing ones and zeros, what you are seeing
(the edges if the light and dark vertical bands) are called flux reversals.  These edges determine when the magnetic particles reverse from North to South, or vice versa, and these are used to derive the ones and zeros on the magnetic strip like this:

This information is sent to your Pocket Verifier or PC Verifier program by the reader.  The software displays all the information on the screen, and you are ready to process!

There are "special" numbers on both tracks 1 & 2 that allow the credit card companies to know you really have the original magnetic strip.  This is how they know if the transaction was swiped or keyed:  If the transaction comes through with the full track data, including the "special" numbers, it is swiped.  If it just has name address, card number and expiration, it is considered a Keyed transaction.

Cash receipts are the most often requested addition to our family of PDA software.  Almost all of our merchants accept cash, and they have a printer and PDA, but no way to generate a receipt!  Now with Pocket Change you can enter your sales amount, have the tax calculated, enter the amount tendered, have the change calculated, and print the receipt!

Receipt customization. Merchants can now customize the top AND the bottom of their receipts [1] with customized text, in large, small, bold and normal fonts, along with individual choice of left, right, or center justification! You still have the choice of standard (32 char/line 6 LPI) or condensed (42 char/line 8 LPI) for optimum paper use, and the titles can track this selection, or auto-override at your option!  These options are set inside the OPTIONS section of Pocket Verifier Professional. See our July 10 newsletter for all your formatting options!

Two types of receipts! Pocket Change can issue a "service" receipt, where you print out the receipt, like in a restaurant, it has a place for the customer to enter tip, and total [2]. If "Show Tip Suggestion" is checked, the receipt will show pre-calculated tip suggestions of 15%, 18% and 20% [3] for your customer's convenience!
