Pocket Merchant gets Makeover! |

WATCH FOR THIS ADDRESS: 145 Rockaway Ave, Brooklyn, NY. There have been an awful lot of reports of stolen credit cards bring used from this address online. It appears to be a "forwarding" address, where Nigerian scammers have products sent using stolen credit card information. The bulletin boards are really "lighting up" with attempts to ship to this address, and when the bank is called, the cards are invariably stolen. BEWARE! National mail-drop chains
(such as Mail Boxes Etc. and Pak Mail), post-office boxes, and international freight forwarders
have been the preferred "ship-to" addresses for fraudsters around the world.
However, as online merchants become suspicious of orders shipped to these locations, fraudsters have found new ways to route their packages to the final destination.
Work at home. One recent scheme for package forwarding relied on recruiting innocent people through what those recruited thought was a legitimate work-at-home program. People were asked to receive packages at their home address and then wait for Federal Express to pick up the goods. When these residential-mail-drop facilitators were recruited, they were told that it was a service that enables foreign consumers to order from U.S. Web sites that do not ship internationally. Lately, some Nigeria-based fraud rings have even advertised their work-at-home schemes on major Internet job banks.
Scammers know that the Internet provides safe and efficient ways to market stolen
goods, and online auctions are one of their favorite channels. Fraudsters can auction merchandise that they already have stolen or, better yet, simply act as a broker and have the site directly ship the goods to the auction winner.
In these so-called triangulation schemes, the fraudster advertises, for example, a brand new digital camera at half the retail price. After someone places a winning bid, the fraudster will order the product from a legitimate site using a compromised card and request shipment to the auction winner. Once the bidder receives the camera, the fraudster receives payment via a person-to-person payment service. In many cases, the scammer safely operates the triangulation from a remote foreign location. |

![]() On again, off again, Verizon has sold a number of Treo 650's, but now their website is only taking your email requests to be notified when they become available. They should be in stores any day now...
The "word" is
that they have been selling to their business customers for about a week,
and that the "formal" release to the public will be on May
23rd. Why Verizon waited seven months after Sprint to release
their 650, we just cannot figure out. We do know Sprint pays extra
to be first and have a short "exclusive" period, but Verizon
seems to always be the last to pick up the new smartphones. Verizon
will be selling these for $399 with a 2-year contract.
