Pocket Verifier for Windows Mobile 5!

Pocket Verifier has been tested on the first WM5 device!

This week's featured merchant is HealthyWaterProducts.com
After a disaster, the first thing that FEMA and the emergency services bring into a disaster area is fresh water.  Often, that takes days and days, and people are forced to drink from questionable sources, increasing the level of disease and misery.

Besides being useful on a camping trip, one of these inexpensive units could really help if your area should suffer an interruption of potable water.

It's owner, Jack Slocumb selected MerchantAnywhere esppecially for this account.  Jack is actually one of the original authors of the Transaction Central gateway!  Being in this position, he had his pick and choice of hundreds of companies that use that gateway.  Jack says: "Because you cut out the sales reps and deal direct to the merchant, you have eliminated the greatest markups.  All the other guys want 2 year commitments and cancellation fees, and I know from experience that they would not give me service after the sale"

This is Jack's SECOND account and company with us, and he continues by saying:  "Your online merchant application make it so simple to get my merchant account that I was shocked. In 2 days I was setup and ready to take transactions with my own shopping cart. It was so easy to integrate into my shopping cart system"

Windows Mobile 5 is here, and the first unit, the Sprint 6700 is in stores now!
Windows Mobile 5.0 has the following cool features:

  • A built-in PowerPoint viewer
  • Charts in Mobile Excel
  • Pictures with your contacts
  • Customized ringtones for contacts
  • Persistent storage (no lost data)
  • Bluetooth
  • Wi-fi
  • MiniSD card storage
  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • Can be used as a modem

This unit is made by HTC, the same people that have made dozens of popular PDA's, including the Treo 650.  This is the first HTC-made PDA that does NOT have a serial port connector, so users need to use our Bluetooth powered Pocket Spectrum, which is due back in stock in two weeks, due to unexpected demand.

Windows 5 is designed to be used on PDA's with all flash memory,  like the 6700.  This has 2 effects:  the internal processing seems to be faster, but the screen refreshing and screen to screen transitions seem to be slower (at least on Pocket Verifier).  Overall, the unit seems about the same performance - wise as the much larger 6600.

There is not much difference in the operation of Windows Mobile 5. If you were looking for a whole new way of doing things, you will be disappointed.  The advantage is that Pocket PC veterans will not have much to learn in order to use it fully.

Be aware that there are new hacker sites offering "fraud starter kits"!
They are offering for download high resolution images of ID's cashiers checks, money orders, birth certificates, utility bills, and more:

They also offer the "official" fonts used for drivers licenses, checks, etc. Making it easier for the fraudster without artistic talent to create realistic looking documents.

They even offer the "service" of doing the work for you,  offering Visa traveler's checks at $10 each, USPS money orders for 10% of face value, the list goes on and on.....

YES, we have been informed that this site has been turned in to the FBI, and NO, we will NOT be printing or distributing their URL!

Knowing that these resources exist, we are warning our merchants to take extra care when accepting ANY type of negotiable paper, other than CASH.
