Updates for Smartphone users

Some of the common Palm OS 3 & 4 Smartphones,
the Kyocera, Samsung and Treo 180, 270 and 300

Special thanks to Dr. Blaine Leckett, our Chief Technical Officer,  for working through many nights and while ill to solve these problems so that our merchants could have the fastest remedy to this unforeseen interruption in service.  Verizon was reporting (at this same time) that its wireless data service was having problems, so we blamed (incorrectly) some of our merchants complaints on that!

Important update to our June 5th newsletter!  The card association has said that a swipe card must also be imprinted in order for the merchant to win a fraud chargeback.  For a mail or Internet order, the product must also be shipped to the billing address or signed for at the time of purchase. They will not accept photo copies of the front and back of the card or a different address for the product to be shipped to.  See the original Fraud Protection issue here.

See all of our newsletters in our newsletter archive!  Get tips and tricks, previews of new product announcements, tips to prevent fraud, Free stuff, and much, much more!

FREE Stuff! Everybody loves free stuff, and you can get all sorts of Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover merchant materials just by asking!  Actually, you need to go to the proper places on their websites and tell them what you want! The links to these sites are at the bottom of this newsletter, and you can get decals, tip trays, calendars, signs, mouse pads and more!  You 'pay' for it simply by identifying yourself as a merchant with your merchant number.   Look on your statements for this number.

Suggestion Box: Got an idea? Can you think of an improvement on any of our products?  Is there anything you think we do that could stand improvement?  Let us know!  Send your suggestions to: info@merchantanywhere.com
we want to hear from you!

When Palm announced that it would discontinue its wireless service, Palm.net, we sent an email warning all of our users. What we were not expecting, is that it also disabled all of its licensee's systems that are using it's INET libraries.  These devices include:

     Samsung i300
     Samsung i330
     Samsung i500
     Kyocera 6035
     Kyocera 7135
     Treo 180
     Treo 270
     Treo 300

Palm gave absolutely no warning or indication that this could occur: See Palm's notice here.  They specifically stated that the only affected units would be the VIIx and the 705.  It looks like someone was asleep at PalmOne.

What can I do about this? Fortunately, our advanced technology allow us to circumvent this problem, and get our users back on line IMMEDIATELY!  The solution will depend on which Smartphone you have.

If you have a TREO 180, 270, or 300: Your INET library was not included with your unit by the factory, it was added from a floppy, a download, or by us prior to shipment.  This allows us to remove the INET library.  The advantage of this approach, is that Treo users can use all future upgrades, with a simple HotSync.  The only downside it that a Hard Reset is needed in order to remove the library.  The full instructions for the TREO upgrade are available by clicking here.

If you have a Samsung i300, Samsung i330, Samsung i500, Kyocera 6035 or Kyocera 7135:  Your INET library is in ROM, and cannot be deleted.  The good news is that the fix is just a simple download, but you may need a special version of our future upgrades.  To download your new software and restore normal operation click here.

Remember, no matter which version of our software you need for your new PDA, you are covered by our "FREE UPGRADES" policy, and you can download the latest version for your new PDA from our upgrades page

Clearly, Palm's action is reprehensible, irresponsible, and reflects a callous and uncaring attitude towards the customers that made it as large as it is today.  As always, we will strive to make quality and affordable choices available to our customers, and give them the support and ongoing attention they so richly deserve.
